The Impact Factor (IF) measures how well cited a journal's articles are and therefore how much impact papers published in the journal are expected to have in the field. IF vary across disciplines in terms of their meaning: in the Social sciences and Psychology, journals with an IF > 2 are considered very respectable, and those with IF > 3 are considered top tier, whereas in the life sciences, such as Biology, an IF > 3 is considered respectable, and an IF > 4 is considered high quality.
